Why “DonationPixel?”
A pixel is the base unit of a digital image. It derives from a contraction of “picture element”. It is the smallest possible visual element on your screen.
Each humanitarian project you can choose is represented by a symbolic photograph, divided into blocks of 100 pixels, 10 pixels tall by 10 pixels wide. Each of these blocks can be “bought” to support that project. The total amount “bought” depends on the number of blocks “purchased”.
Blocks that are covered by a logo or image are those that have already been “bought” by contributors. The aim is to cover the entire photograph with such blocks, which would represent that enough funds have been raised to realise the project.

What constitutes a donation?
Every donation begins by choosing a project. Then, the donor “buys” blocks of pixels covering the photograph, using the space “bought” to display his or her name, logo, photograph or other image (or, should the donor be a corporation, that corporation’s name, logo or other image). The only limit on the amount donated is the number of blocks left to be “bought” for that project. Moreover, donors have the possibility of submitting a short sentence, phrase or description (maximum 50 words) that appear when visitors hover their mice over the donor’s blocks.
To make a donation once you’ve identified the project you wish to support, just click on the blocks you wish to “buy”. Please note that the blocks “bought” must form a square or rectangle.

How is the donor visible?
LThe visibility of donors starts with the fact that their names, images or logos appear on the blocks “bought”. Furthermore, when visitors click on those names, images or logos, they are linked directly to the corresponding donor’s website. Each project lasts three years from the moment they are offered on our website, and donors will remain visible during this period. Please also see our legal information.

Can I track a project I’ve supported?
Absolutely. We feel that it is particularly important for donors to be able to track their project’s progress. That’s why we’ve arranged with our partners so that regular updates, with photographs whenever possible, are posted on our website.

How are projects supervised?
We take great care to ensure that contributions are properly and carefully used. We begin by signing contract with our local partners that insists on different levels of supervision. For example, partners must send us regular project reports and for most projects DonationPixel’s representatives will visit the project site to appraise first hand the work being done. At a project’s conclusion, DonationPixel will check the project’s financial reports as well as the project summary.

How much does a block of pixels cost?
One pixel costs US$ 0.50. A block of 100 pixels, therefore, costs US$ 50.00, the smallest possible contribution. The cost of a donation is the number of bocks “bought” multiplied by US$ 50. The maximum contribution depends on the number of blocks of pixels left uncovered. Click here for examples of different numbers of blocks and their respective costs.

Can I support DonationPixel without choosing a project?
Absolutely. Please click here.

Can I remove my name, logo or image after I’ve made a contribution?
It is possible, yes. However, if you remove your name, logo or image after your contribution and remove your name from the list of donors, the amount contributed will not be refunded. Please send as a formal, written request if you wish to remove your name.

Can I change the contents of the blocks I’ve “bought”?
Yes. Once you’ve “bought” your first block, you will receive a username and password you can use to log in here, where you can then modify the contents of your blocks.

What type of images can I put on my blocks?
Your image can have any text, image or logo you want, while respecting the following restrictions:
- All content must be in jpg, gif or png format.
- The images may not be pornographic, obscene or otherwise offensive. The same applies to the sites the blocks link to. Please see legal information for more details legal information.
- The maximum size of the image is 20 KiB.
- The donor must possess all necessary rights for that donor’s image, text and link.
Your image can not be an animated gif; alternatively, you may choose an image from our database.

How do I buy a block?
Click on it, and follow the instructions.

Is it possible to place the blocks anywhere on the symbolic picture?
The humanitarian or development project can only come true when the necessary amount of money has been collected. All the squares must be sold. By placing your block in direct contact with one edge of the picture or with another block that has already been purchased, you help us monitor the project. Should empty spaces remain, we would have to move some banners or groups of blocks to ensure that the whole picture can be covered.

OK, I’ve “bought” a block. How long before my image shows up?
Generally, within 24 to 48 hours after the block has been “bought”.

I don’t have a banner. Can I get one made?
Please click
here to have a banner custom made by a designer.
